Simon Richardson MBE

Back in August one of our top cyclists, that of Simon Richardson was involved in a hit and run accident. Phil over at his blog tells the story far better than I could.

Simon Richardson for those that don’t know is a double-gold Paralympic cyclist.  On the track in Bejing 2008 he won the LC3/4 1km time trial and 3km individual pursuit. He also claimed a silver in the road time trial and assisted team mate Darren Kenny to victory in the road race.

The reason I’m telling this story, although belatedly is Phil and the cycling community all rallied round to show their support via a Twitter campaign under the hashtag #SIMONSTRONG.

Again I’ll let Phil’s blog tell the next amazing thing the cycling community did and one person in particular.

Please click on that link.

If you’re a member of the Twitterati then @Chris_PRA   @racepaceblog  @roadphil  and @cyclingsimonmbe  are the necessary Twitter IDs to follow.

The upshot of all of this is a speedily recovering Simon and quite possibly one of the most intricate paintjobs on a bike ever.

I’m very proud to say that the publicity shots have by coincidence shown my supporting Twitter ID that of @CliveBees quite prominantly.

The finished article as reported on Road CC.  A true work of art and a fitting tribute to Simon and the camaraderie that is the brotherhood of cyclists.

  1. I saw the bike in the flesh at the Cycle Show in Birmingham and found your name on it twice. Did you get to see the bike?

  2. Hi Toby, no I didn’t, my house move chores precluded my attendance at the show much to my disgust, but them’s the breaks eh?
